Introduction

Welcome to Climate County Durham, where you can learn about climate change, it’s impact and get all the information you need to take action and help reduce your carbon footprint contributing towards becoming a carbon neutral county.

Climate change is more than just a buzz word or the latest media trend. The science is clear; the effects are devastating, the evidence undeniable and we must all take action to reverse the effects.

Everything we do as individuals to big corporations has an impact on our beautiful environment creating effects on our health, changes in ecology, biodiversity changing the world as we knew and know it. The power is in each of our hands to bring about positive and sustainable change so we can continue to enjoy the life we have taken for granted for long enough.

We must act now:

  • To avoid burdening future generations with greater impacts and costs of climate change
  • Allow economies to cope better by mitigating environmental risks and improving energy efficiency
  • For wider benefits to health, energy security and biodiversity

This website has been developed to help understand and reduce our impact on the environment and support bringing a positive change to our county. You will find lots of information around climate change, ideas and resources which you may find useful.

Understanding Climate Change

Economy

Delaying action on Climate Change will be much more costly in the long term as the costs for adapting to the changing climate causing economic instability.

Changes in Weather

Increase in the intensity and occurrence of extreme weather events such as flooding, heat waves and droughts.

Impact on landscape

With temperature changes and weather changes landscape, seascape biodiversity and ecology are in danger.

Health

With a rapidly changing environment physical and mental health becomes impacted.

What you can do to help!

No-one is immune from the impacts of climate change and thankfully, there are many ways that you can contribute to tackling the problem. Together, many individual choices we make and actions we take can make a difference, leaving a legacy and County that we and future generations are proud of and can thrive in.
