Engage in Creative Workshops, Live Music, and Environmental Education at Glenholme Park
B.O.P Fest (Building Our Planet Festival) is coming around to County Durham once again with even more exciting activities, performances, and treats. B.O.P Fest is a one-night-only event open to everyone. It will take place this Saturday 3 August 2024, from 12.00 noon to 7.00pm in Glenholme Park, Crook.
What is B.O.P Fest?
The festival is organised by the Jack Drum Arts Youth Board, established in 2021 and consisting of ten young individuals aged 10-20 from across County Durham. Following the pandemic, the group wanted to find a way to bring everyone together and showcase the best of our community from local artists and vendors, while portraying their passion for climate action in an uplifting and exciting way. Thus B.O.P Fest was created.
Climate action and sustainability are some of the biggest topics in recent times and the Jack Drum Arts Youth Board makes this known in the work they do, sharing the knowledge in an entertaining way and promoting small change that can make bigger impacts. They aim to bring education to all generations on the importance of protecting our planet and making positive changes for a better future.
“We feel, as young people, that we should have a voice to shape our future. As climate change continues to have an impact on the lives of not only us as humans but also all the animals and plants that exist in the world. It is crucial to our development that we spread the message about climate change, sustainability, and environmental accountability.”
What is included at the event?
The festival will host a variety of activities and fun for the whole family, including live music from upcoming local musicians, creative workshops, and street theatre. Festival headliners include the hugely popular Newcastle based band Ponyland with more announced across their social media.
Not to forget that there will be a community parade that will bring awareness to endangered species at 18:00, composed by Youth Board members and featuring talented local drummers and dancers from Runaway Samba and Get Set Samba, along with the public.
If you’re planning on going and want to do your bit for the environment, you could use this as the opportunity to try green transport by finding out your local bus service, exploring train options, or walking If you live close by.
The festival is free to attend except for charges for workshops, facepainting and other vendors.
