International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystems

July 26

  • « Plastic Free July
  • National Marine Week »

Since 1980, we have lost half of the mangrove forests. Some countries have lost more than 80 per cent of their mangrove population. Mangroves are important as they can withstand flooding and low oxygen, they also provide habitats for fish and crustaceans as well as protects its surrounding area from coastline erosion and climate change but can also act as a defence against the effects of tides and tsunamis. This international day brings awareness to mangrove and how we can protect it.
