Fantastic free weekend of sustainability, creativity and community spirit at Festival of Thrift’s first Billingham event

Festival of Thrift’s spectacular free weekend celebration of sustainability, creativity and community spirit is heading to Billingham on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September 2023, 10.00am – 5.00pm.

The event will see the heart of the town and the adjoining John Whitehead Park come alive with vibrant colours and contagious energy as visitors enjoy thought-provoking performances alongside the festival’s special mix of hands-on fun, food, music, dance and song.

A packed schedule as diverse, entertaining and inspiring as ever will fill the weekend with Festival of Thrift’s trademark mix of performances, live music and talks alongside stalls selling food, drink and goods from ethical traders.

Take part in:

  • The Imagined Meadow area John Whitehead Park) – performances and free workshops
  • The Allotment Patch area (John Whitehead Park) – performances, hands-on workshops, demos and insightful talks focused on the beauty and importance of the natural world, sustainable food production, biodiversity and the joy of nurturing nature’s bounty.
  • Camp Thrift area (John Whitehead Park) – den building, music-making and storytelling.
  • Bandstand area (Billingham Town Centre) – brass on stilts, Balkan melodies, ska and disco, theatrical storytelling and poetry on the town centre stage.
  • Electric Avenue (Billingham Town Centre) – an interactive area for all the family to learn about the power of renewable energy, green technology and careers.
  • Slow Fashion Alley (Billingham Town Centre) – an area filled with sustainable and slow fashion, talks, swap shop, repairs and mending
