No, this isn’t a prank – it’s time to talk fossil fuels
What is Fossil Fools Day?
This Saturday is Fossil Fools day, a holiday that coincides with April fools. The day was created to raise awareness of climate emergency caused by greenhouse gases released when fossil fuels are burnt.
“The purpose behind Fossil Fools Day is to impart knowledge about alternative energy sources and to request people’s support for shaping a sustainable future.”
How can we help?
There are many ways to reduce your consumption of fossil fuels, for example, by changing the way you travel. Instead of hopping in the car, you can use a bike choose an electric vehicle; by avoiding fossil fuelled cars you reduce your consumption of petrol or diesel and therefore don’t release greenhouse gases as you travel.
Tom, a County Durham resident, tried out an Electric Van when volunteering with REfUSE café during lockdown, and you can hear about his experience on Tom’s YouTube channel.
We understand that taking the Electric Vehicle Leap can be daunting, but if you are part of a community group or a small to medium business, and would like to try an Electric Van yourself, we offer a Try Before You Buy scheme. The scheme is free of charge, you only pay to insure and charge the vehicle while you are using it.
So, if you can, why not choose an electric vehicle or a bike to reduce your reliance on fossil fuels!
