Happy New Year – we’re a few days into January already, but it’s not too late to set an extra new year resolution
If you haven’t already heard, Veganuary has started once again. Veganuary is a month-long event that encourages participants to eat a no-meat diet for 31 days. Starting in 2014, this is the 9th year it has been going. In 2022, more than 620,000 people took the pledge to try the vegan diet, with many more businesses launching new vegan products.
Veganuary was started because the founders wanted to encourage ‘a world where food production does not decimate forests, pollute rivers and oceans, exacerbate climate change, and drive wild animal populations to extinction.’
A web magazine, LiveKindly, states eating one vegan meal a week reduced the UK’s emissions by 8%. There is a huge amount of exciting recipes online, it’s not all about ‘tofu’, but really it’s a chance to extend your tastebuds.
We also know that Veganuary doesn’t work for everyone, so it is good to note you don’t need to go fully vegan to still help. Going vegan or vegetarian even just for one meal a week could make a huge difference to your carbon footprint, and can also lead to a much more healthy and balanced diet.
It’s never too late to start, try something new in the new year.
