Extreme weather in the UK

In the past two years the world has seen a significant increase in dramatic and devastating weather events; floods, forest fires, heat waves, droughts, and more recently Storm Arwen as a result of climate change. Heat records have been broken many times over in every continent, and many lives have already been lost. Adapting or being more resilient in a changing climate is vital if society, the environment, and the economy is to continue to thrive.

Extreme weather event, like Storm Arwen, can cause damage to the infrastructure that brings power to our homes, leaving businesses and residents without power. In order to tackle this problem, The Northern PowerGrid Foundation was established in 2022 to find the solutions and avoid any more struggles in the future.

What is their mission?

The Foundation has a mission to help fuel-poor households, support those who have been impacted by extreme weather, and share knowledge about protecting our environment and choosing sustainable energy sources.

“The Foundation is committed to funding projects that support energy resilience initiatives located within our local communities who are most affected by changes in the economy, environment and society because of the shifting energy landscape.” – Northern PowerGrid Foundation

Grant Application

A grant of up to £20,000 is available to communities that apply online, with two opportunities per year to apply.

So far, 43 communities that were worst hit by the winter storms are on their way to become energy resilient during emergency events with the help of £560,000 from the Foundation. Express your interest to the Northern PowerGrid foundation.

The fund opens in June and by visiting the Foundation’s website you can sign up for regular updates and be notified when the fund is released.
