We are weeks into April and the sun is starting to shine
After a rough winter with energy prices skyrocketing, it is lovely to see changes in the weather and with the new season, brings opportunities to save money on energy too. We have some great tips on how to take advantage of our natural resources when doing your daily tasks.
Take advantage of the Sun
One advantage of spring is the longer days filled with sunlight. Sunlight is great for lighting your home, so keep your blinds open and enjoy the natural light, whilst saving pounds by not switching lights on. Turning lights on when not needed, especially if it is traditional lighting, can build up your bills significantly.
Heating your home
Warmer weather means you don’t need to use gas to heat your home. Keeping your curtains open on a sunny day can increase the temperature in your home and avoid the usage of fossil fuels and spending unnecessary money. However not all days are sunny, so if you do need to turn your heating on, make sure your temperature is low. Turning your heating down by just 1 degree can save you 10% off your energy bills, 18 degrees is the average comfortable temperature in homes.
On the other hand, if your home is too hot, simply open the windows and circulate air around your home. And make sure to stay hydrated. Avoid using fans and air conditioners where possible.
Doing the chores
Ideal home claims that using a tumble dryer can cost up to £216 per year on average. When you do a wash, try hanging them outside for a more natural approach.
One downside to the heat is the strain it can put on your fridge. Simply cleaning and regularly defrosting your fridge/freezer can help your fridge run more smoothly in the hotter temperatures.
